Food in it’s true form, comprised of it’s many vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients is truly amazing.
Have you ever just looked at the vegetables and fruits you purchased and just observed how beautiful it really is?
As you begin to practice this, your gratitude for the really whole rich foods you purchase will continue to grow. You will appreciate your food more and realize you do not need all of the packaged and processed junk that is always so readily available.
You have to be a bit curious about the truth.
The truth behind these ingredients listed on nutrition labels of food products you and your family are consuming.
I know I was and still am.
Well, guess what?
You have the right to know and I am about to tell you.
Here is the truth.
These ingredients can be causing a multiple array of issues and introducing symptoms of inflammation.
Bloating, Weight Gain, Migraines, Infections, Skin Rashes, Acne, Irritability, Joint and Muscle Pain, Hormone Imbalances, just to name a few!
As the food industry continues to grow, by billions and billions of dollars each year, they become smarter, wittier, and more clever. They know how to stay ahead of the game as we become more educated about their real intentions. Remember, these food corporations are all about the Benjamins. Cheaper ingredients, more sugar, substitute sugars, thickeners, food colorings, gums, and other chemicals are used to get you roped in, addicted, and a continuous customer for life.
When looking at a food label, do not be fooled by their sneakiness of “low-fat”, “no cholesterol”, “sugar-free” business. Just to name a few, gimmick lines work to get you interested in their product. You eye it down, check out that the nutrition facts read it is low in calories and sugar, so it must be a healthy one!
More chemicals and additives are snuck into the food to make up for flavor, texture, smell, shelf-life, stability, and taste.
Your body needs healthy fats in order to survive. It uses healthy fats for energy, bodily processes and proper functioning, and mental clarity, absorption of vitamins A,D,E,K, and controls inflammation.
Cholestrol comes from a food source that has a liver. If a bag of chips reads “no-cholesterol”, well duh! It never had a liver in the first place to produce any cholesterol. I choose to not support and purchase foods from companies that look to rope you in. I believe it is sneaky and unkind.
Food products labeled “sugar-free” are full of toxic and carcinogenic chemicals. Just looking at the ingredient list is like reading a science laboratory manual. I will break it down for you.
Here is #1.
Sugar, Sugar, Sugar.
The world loves sugar and so do these smart and witty food corporations.
Why is sugar such a big deal?
Because it is highly addictive.
Sugar is 8-10 times more addictive than cocaine.
Yes, I said it.
These multi-billion dollar companies know how to advertise, rope you in, and get you hooked.
Once they have you, they know they have you, your children, and grandchildren, for life.
But why would they do such a thing?
Natural Flavors and Artificial Flavors.
What do these mean and what are they?
I get asked all the time.
Well, here we go.
Artificial and Natural Flavors are made by “flavorists” in a lab by blending together either “natural” chemicals or “synthetic” chemicals to create flavorings.
Yes, I am totally serious.
The definition of natural flavor under the Code of Federal Regulations is:
“The essential oil, oleoresin, essence or extractive, protein hydrolysate, distillate, or any product of roasting, heating or enzymolysis, which contains the flavoring constituents derived from a spice, fruit or fruit juice, vegetable or vegetable juice, edible yeast, herb, bark, bud, root, leaf or similar plant material, meat, seafood, poultry, eggs, dairy products, or fermentation products thereof, whose significant function in food is flavoring rather than nutritional” (21CFR101.22).
Avoid these 17 Toxic and Carcinogenic Ingredients:
#1 cause for inflammation. Leads to weight gain, obesity, diabetes, heart disease, chronic fatigue, irritability, mental fog, energy spikes and crashes, migraines, headaches, dental issues, poor performance, and many more.
2. Artificial Sugars and Sweeteners (i.e. sucralose, xylitol, aspartame, saccharin, neotame, acesulfame potassium)
Neurotoxins, carcinogens, and inflammatory causing chemicals. Aspartame is linked to affect short-term memory, and may lead to brain tumors, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, depression, anxiety, headaches, nausea, migraines, and lymphoma.
Acesulfame potassium is linked to kidney tumors.
3. Trans Fats
A toxic, highly processed ingredient and/or chemical very harmful to your health. Trans fats increase LDL “bad” cholesterol and triglycerides and lower HDL “good” cholesterol. They are known to increase your chances of heart disease.
4. Artificial Flavors or Natural Flavors
Genetically modified sweeteners and flavors with no nutritional value. These chemicals lead to health risks, disease, metabolic syndrome, weight gain, increased appetite, allergies, hormonal issues, mental disorders, etc.
5. Monosodium Glutamate
A flavor enhancer, heavily processed, to make you eat more.
6. Food Colorings
Known carcinogens linked to cancers such as bladder, kidney, thyroid, brain, adrenal, and colon cancers. Food colorings are chemicals that are unnatural and dangerous.
7. High Fructose Corn Syrup
A refined and genetically modified food product, HFCS leads to a long list of health risks and diseases. It is used to increase shelf-life, make food taste better, give food texture, etc. HFCS increases triglycerides, makes your body hold onto fat (increases fat-storing hormone), increases your appetite, increases weight gain, increases chance of Diabetes and Heart Disease.
8. Sodium Nitrates/Nitrites
Known carcinogens, found in processed meat products such as deli and lunch meat, hot dogs, bacon, etc. Eating these cancer causing ingredients can lead to diabetes, heart disease, obesity, migraines, hormonal imbalances, and many more.
Toxic to liver and kidneys.
USDA tried to ban this ingredient in the 1970’s but the food manufacturers won.
9. Butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT)
Carcinogenic. Preservatives found in packaged goods, chewing gum, candy, jello, sausage, vegetable oils, etc. Keeps food from going rancid and increases shelf-life.
10. Potassium and Sodium Bromate
Carcinogenic. Found in white flour, breads, baked goods, and cereals.
Trace amounts have been shown to cause damage.
11. Sulfur Dioxide
FDA banned use on raw fruits and vegetables. Can lead to respiratory distress, hypotension (low blood pressure), tingling sensations and anaphylactic shock.
Destroys vitamin B1 and vitamin E.
12. Sodium Sulfite
Preservative used in processed foods and even wine. Causes headaches, respiratory distress, rashes, and in rare cases cardiac arrest.
Flour bleaching agent and dough conditioner.
Used in plastics, synthetic leather, carpets, floor mats, and yoga mats.
14. Bromated Vegetable Oil, aka “BVO
Found in sodas.
An endocrine disruptor. Affects iodine absorption.
15. Palm Oil
A processed food product and trans fat.
16. Shortening or Partially Hydrogenated Oils
A trans fat found in many processed foods, especially food products with increased shelf life.
17. Xanthan Gum
Thickening and stabilizing agent in foods, cosmetics, lotions, toothpastes, and medicines. Is a gut irritant, causing inflammation of the digestive system. Consuming xanthan gum may cause flu-like symptoms, problems with breathing (respiratory system), and irritation of the nose and throat.
